When do you use a steering hub?
The steering wheel hub has a hole pattern that matches almost all sports steering wheels. Our steering wheel hubs have 12 holes which offer the option of mounting different sports handlebars. The pitch circle (PCD) of these two patterns are 70mm and 74mm. The sports steering wheels from QSP Products, OMP Racing, Sparco, Momo*, among others, can all be attached to our steering wheel hubs.
*When using a Momo steering wheel, the original mass/horn ring cannot be used, but the hub can optionally be modified for this. Feel free to inquire about the possibilities.
How to install a steering wheel hub?
First of all, you need to disassemble the original steering wheel from the steering column. If you have a car with an airbag in the steering wheel as standard, this must also be removed. After all, you can never use the airbag in combination with a sports steering wheel. When everything is disassembled, the stem is exposed. This stem is equipped with splaines, the so-called teeth. If you have chosen the right hub for your car, the hub will also have the same splaine pattern. Then slide the handlebar hub over the stem. In most cases the hub is clamped by means of a central lock nut. The nut holds the hub in place. Check that it is properly secured, after all, it is your own safety. Please note that you must always disconnect the battery from the car to prevent the airbag from being released during disassembly.
Please note: when choosing a steering wheel hub, it is important that you know whether your car was originally equipped with an airbag! Even if you no longer use this airbag, the splaine and mounting of the hub may be different for the same car without an airbag. An airbag disable kit is also supplied with all steering hubs intended for cars with an airbag, to ensure that no lights on your dashboard come on.
Which steering hub do I need?
Can't find the right hub for your car? Then try to find out whether your steering system is also used in another car of a different brand. For example, the steering hubs for a Golf 4 with airbag are the same as a steering hub for a Skoda Fabia with airbag.
